Coming from a competitive volleyball career, Karen enjoys bringing her sports mentality into teaching: encouraging you to push yourself and offering fine tuning corrections that help your movement become more efficient and strengthens the mind/body connection. As a coach she believes optimal motivation occurs with the right level of challenge and immediate positive feedback, and that is what she strives for in each class. That you will leave the class feeling accomplished, more flexible, and stronger mentally and physically. Those feelings and awareness can be carried with you as you step outside the studio and into your daily life. Pilates movements can be healing physically and mentally, and she looks forward to celebrating that progress with you!
Karen moved to Amsterdam by way of Hawaii where she worked as project manager for a commercial real estate portfolio. She found the Pilates method after several debilitating knee surgeries that ended her volleyball career. It was the first time since her initial injury she was able to move her body freely without pain and she has been hooked ever since! She quickly found that the challenge of pilates could fill the void she had from not being able to play competitive sports. She decided it was time to leave a stressful career behind, and pursue teaching Pilates as a career and started her comprehensive Polestar training here in Amsterdam. Karen loves that each person and body is different and teaching how Pilates movements can be beneficial for
